Simulation Training: Massive Transfusion Protocol (9 min)

Simulation training in medical education offers learners the opportunity to practice valuable clinical skills in communication, team coordination, problem-solving and decision-making without compromising the ethical and legal rights of patients or jeopardizing patient safety. A "Massive Transfusion Protocol"  is activated by a clinician in response to a patient that is experiencing massive bleeding.  Practicing high-stakes clinical scenarios in a safe simulated environment allows learners working in multidisciplinary teams to strengthen their skills in teamwork and communication under stressful circumstances.  Simulations are often followed by a debrief session.
